Winston Capps
Winston Capps knew from early on that he had a deep passion for learning. He was taught and inspired by a number of mentors who had a meaningful impact on his academic life. As an enthusiastic and devoted educator, he strives to pass on his love of learning to his students.
Winston earned a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Aerospace Engineering from Louisiana State University. All throughout his academic career as an undergraduate, he conducted research in the LSU Physics and Astronomy Department winning the Barry M. Goldwater Honorable Mention Award: https://www.honors.lsu.edu/news/live-gold.
He possesses a variety of technical skills ranging from teaching and tutoring Calculus, Chemistry, & Physics at the high school and college levels to utilizing 3-D CAD software such as SolidWorks
and Autodesk Inventor to design structural parts and assemblies, perform stress/strain analysis, and draft mechanical drawings according to tolerancing standards for use by professional machinists.
He taught Mechanics of Materials Laboratory to undergraduates at the University of Alabama and designed/fabricated a radio-controlled micro aircraft for the SAE AERO Design Heavy Lift Competition using NASA's system engineering approach. At Louisiana Tech’s Cyber Discovery Week which was sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security and involved constructing and iterative testing of a miniature robot along with solving cryptographic puzzles, he led a team of students to first place in the final competition.
